Syempre, gugustuhin nya yun. Syempre sasabihin nyang, MORE! That, if this question is used on comedy bar stage or with crazy friends.
Will he still be willingly surrender himself to the rapists? He would surely be in total depression same with the victims of this traumatic crime. He would never say ” I love it, palong palo” because this is something serious.
Can you see the difference? Where was Vice Ganda when he said his joke about Jessica? Was it on air? On national TV? Did he ever warn the audience before the show?Did the audiences warn their children before buying tickets for the whole family? Did you know that the show was a comedy concert?
Have these ‘bashers’ been in a comedy bars where Vice and other celebrity comedians now are using offensive words such as PUTANG INA, KANTUTAN, TITI at PEKPEK loud and clear? Malutong na malutong. AND…..AND, people are taking VIDEOS and eventually upload it on social networks. Does it affect us? May narinig ba tayong balita sa GMA na si Vice, Pooh,John Santos or John Lapus nagmura at pinagbabastos ang mga politicians on stage? Never. Not until the horse comedian has reached the office of the GMA news Vice President with a twist.
Syempre, in news writing, dapat may angle… RAPE. Takbo agad sa Gabriela, magtanong sa kanilang reaction. My question is, did Gabriela notice it before? Kung tatanungin ka kunyari ng isang media practitioner about RAPE on JOKE, will you say positive words about it? Of course, may camera. People watch. Hindi lang komedyante, sa FLIPTOP battle, ilang beses kong narinig si BATAS ” Pati nanay mo, kinantot ko”, Ilang miyong views yun, did Gabriela make a move against it? Or is it because they are not watching it and maybe they only watched the sliced clip of Vice concert presented of course by GMA?
RAPE BA KAMO?
State of the Nation anchor Jessica Soho said on GMA News TV that the issue is not about her ( weight) but its about the RAPE crime itself.
MATABA BA KAMO?
Ted Failon, Korina,Noli,Bernadet, and Karen!
John L: Baket, may BIG 5 naman ang GMA ha,
Mel Tiangko
Arnold Clavio
Mike Enriquez
Jessica Soho
Jessica Soho
……….oh diba BIG 5?! hahahahha
Watch the full clip of the concert not the sliced one that is circulating on the web as basis of their judgement. [ visit this link http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCy6ognSeeL76Tb5afEydRLw?feature=watch ] I have seen the entire segment. In that segment VICE started to orient his audience by featuring the BOLD CINEMA Philippines has since 1980’s with all the warnings and he was acting like one using the current celebrities as example of the WHAT IF BOLDSTARS sila. Nagalit ba si Kris when he dramatized Kris being fucked? “Ang saya saya. Love love love. ” Watch the whole segment before your ignorance strikes.
The formula they are using is always be offensive. Vice, as a stand-up comedian was accepted by thousands of people because of his unique approach sa tinatawag nating COMEDY. Otherwise, he would be like the traditional jokers na kailangan may papel or timbangan sa kanang kamay at kailangan ipukpok muna sa kawawang side actor para maging katawa tawa with all the sound ‘boeng’ effects. O di kaya, magpangit pangitan para pagtawanan. Comedy ika nga.
Wag maging hypocrite. Kinagat nga ng tao, malamang si Vice would continue the formula of his jokes na alam nyang nagustuhan ng karamihan. What’s this formula? The Comedy Bar formula.
I am not saying what he did was right. Punch lines are always be offensive. There are 2 scenarios. Hope you get it.
RAPE o JESSICA SOHO?
Nagsimula ito syempre nung nag flood ang tweets ng GMA reporters castigating VICE GANDA who was making fun of the weight of a GMA EXECUTIVE AND NEWS ANCHOR. This means, he didn’t watch the whole BOLDSTAR segment.Vice struck Boy Abunda, Kris, and among others who received ridiculous interpretations than that gang rape thingy.
Vice pointed out that what if si Jessica ay maging boldstar demonstrating possible scene on a film. Kaya nga I suggest watch the whole segment. Nasaan ang mga rape victims dyan? Rape is a crime but all these years ngayon lang tayo mag react about this shity word sa daming jokes about RAPE. ( Ma rape ka dyan. Ok lang basta gwapo) ( Holdapan: Pera o Rape? Rape nalng enjoy pa)
Heard of these jokes?
Atupagin nyo nalang yang TAIWAN at SCARBOROUGH issues. O di kaya yang K12 na yan. Nagdagdag ng 2 more years, tapos kulang ang paaralan at guro tapos pagbibintangan si Vice Ganda kung bakit naging pilosopo ang mga anak? O di kaya sasabihan syang baklang bully? E kayong haters, kung maka comment, are you not bullying a personality like VICE? Neknek mo!

On his own TV show, top comedian ViceGanda can mess up with his willing victims/guests, many of whom are politicians and celebrities aching for PR mileage. He-she is supersmart, A-No 1 and at the top of his career but this time, I give him/her an “F” for failing to be a respectable pro in the practice of his craft. He is overdoing his funny-ness when he made fun of a respectable, multi-awarded lady executive/journalist of a competitor network who’s not even a fellow showbiz personality. PRONTO, he should apologize to Miss Jessica, to her network, to all women, to all of us Filipinos and to me. I am deeply offended, too! Does he know what “gang rape” means to real victims? Does he know how it is to be “fat” and be laughed at in public??? That’s too below the belt! No wonder he belongs to the barn!

I guess the reaction was intense because Jessica Soho is an award-winning journalist who has represented the country to the world– and Boy Abunda, Gus Abelgas, Kim Atienza or, heck, Kris Aquino could compare to that. I also think that had it been Regine Velasquez’ or Lea Salonga’s or Susan Roces’ name instead of Jessica Soho’s, people’s reaction would be the same. You just don’t disrespect pillars of the industry IN ANY WAY. Isn’t Boy Abunda a pillar of the industry, you might ask? I don’t think so. He’s well-respected but he’s not in the same league. Plus, for all we know he’s good friends with Vice Ganda and is very much comfortable hearing nasty jokes from the very popular comedian. I love Vice Ganda, but he needs to learn to pay respect to people who makes him proud to be a Filipino. Other jokes might have been funny, but an “implied” gang rape joke? IMHO, that was low.
And whatever fans and haters say, one thing was certain: It hurt Jessica Soho not just as a person but also as a journalist who, most probably, has covered rape news, and also as a woman.
As for the other personalities mentioned, I think if they were working in a different TV station, they would have been vocal about getting hurt as well–and I do believe that they are hurt.

I disagree with you about punchlines. They’re not meant to be offensive. They’re meant to make you think. And people have been complaining about this type of comedy for years! And yes, marami sa nagko-comment di pumunta sa comdy bar kasi ayaw nga nila yung humor don. Di lang napapansin noon and, yes, it had to take a Jessica Soho joke for it to catch attention.
Here’s a quote from Ricky Gervais about comedy: “There’s nothing that you should never joke about, but it depends what that joke is. Comedy comes from a good or a bad place. The subject of a joke isn’t necessarily the target of the joke. You can make jokes about race without any race being the butt of the joke. Racism itself can be the butt, for example. When dealing with a so-called taboo subject, the angst and discomfort of the audience is what’s under the microscope. Our own preconceptions and prejudices are often what are being challenged. I don’t like racist jokes. Not because they are offensive. I don’t like them because they’re not funny. And they’re not funny because they’re not true. They are almost always based on a falsehood somewhere along the way, which ruins the gag for me. Comedy is an intellectual pursuit. Not a platform.”
I think he would have found a way to use his comedy to educate rather than perpetuate rape myths. Saka iba ang comedy bar sa araneta. Nasa ibang level na dapat si Vice. He should be influencing people, using comedy to educate them.

True. Im not quite in agreement in punishing Vice for his material or for his brand of comedy for that matter. Tasteless as it is, “okrayan” (as what i would agree we should term our flavor of stand-up comedy) sells; and it sells because its true. Citing gervais its true because it tugs at our cultural psyche, how we think and how we feel, and we filipinos are an emotional lot. We think that the world is on our collective shoulders. We find so many things wrong with everything and we complain, we complain so much that its become funny hearing it from another filipino. I say filipino because the same kind of punchlines okrayan brings coming from , say foreigners, then becomes racist and biased. Come to think of it; its funny how the filipino mind works. its not rational. its emotional.

i agree with you. if vice is intelligent, he should have made use of that intelligence to educate people on matters that will help improve their character.vice is a big letdown.after apologizing, he still tried to justify his brand of jokes.as he said, people have different ways of accepting jokes.maybe, many filipinos were turned off because his jokes stink and base.no wonder, filipinos’ iq level has gone to the drain……

this is where the lines once again blurs. some tend to follow the arguments with properly mended reasons and thoughtfully stitched logic. yet, any path you follow in this non-issue subject boils down again to opinion. some may say that VG’s opinions were insensitive in its course while others say they are what he does best. on the other hand, still some say Jessica’s caliber should not be put down on that level while other’s say she should not felt that ego of hers held that high. whatever it is, just another story to be told in your next get togethers. nothing more than an issue not worth discussing. as they say, poor minds talk about people, better minds talk about events, but great minds talk about ideas. again, a non issue. as i see it, as long no tangible law suits are made this is just a question of morality, a topic so far-fetched in many of us. a topic more related to as to why there are purely vegetarians and those who are not. get on with life guys. just my 2 cents.

Personalities aside, the joke is not funny. I think a lot of people forget that humor at the expense other people is not humor. For whatever it’s worth, JS does not deserve that joke nor Vice deserves all the cyber bullying. But under normal circumstances, we apologize to people whom we offend with our offensive and nasty jokes, don’t we? Besides, why make fun of people we are not friends with anyway?

i read and agree with some of your comments, However, i would like to point out that a wrong deed or action, even if done ad nauseam , willl never make it right. If nobody complains to abusive , derogatory words directed to somebody or to their own person doesn’t make an action right. It will be forever indefensible. It attacks everybodys sensibility of what is right or wrong, what is good or bad.
There is always a limitation to our freedom of expression, that it does not transgress over other people’s rights for then it becomes oral defamation.
If I followed your line of reasoning correctly, putang ina, puki, titi, kantot, et. al., will be an acceped norm in our daily conversation because nobody had complained.
However good is the introductory statement of VG, it does not make his jokes correct when he alluded or directed it to real person/s. Have you heard it on TV, seen it on movies, or read it in pocketbooks, when the authors or writers make disclaimer or qualifications on person/s mentioned in their literary product.

This is a joke right, right? Sinabi sa isang comedy concert, right? So take it as that. We know Vice. We know his jokes. We know what he does.
As in.

Put it in your situation. At please be more mature po.

1. Comedians in Comedy Bars “using offensive words such as PUTANG INA, KANTUTAN, TITI at PEKPEK loud and clear…Malutong na malutong” DOES NOT MAKE IT RIGHT. Madalas din ang nakawan sa Quiapo na nagaganap araw-araw, THAT does not make it right either. We would still be under Spanish rule, slavery would still exist, at Indio pa rin ang tawag satin if we accepted the status quo just because.
2. “My question is, did Gabriela notice it before? ” That people did not react immediately DOES NOT MAKE IT RIGHT either. So what if it took some time for the deed to sink in? Are you suggesting people should forgive and forget transgressions IF they don’t react within, what, 5 days? Then let us not complain about the Crusades, war crimes, and human rights abuses during Martial Law anymore since, following your logic, that was so long ago anyway.
3. “Nasaan ang mga rape victims dyan? Rape is a crime but all these years ngayon lang tayo mag react about this shity word sa daming jokes about RAPE.”
Well, the rape victims weren’t THERE. They usually hide at home, afraid to go out and show their faces, dealing with the physical & emotional scars being raped left them with. (Google “stories from rape victims” and please read through it. Their stories are online.) They have to deal with trauma pa kasi e. But I bet they would still get to see the clip about the “rape joke”. That’s when they will get hurt. And relive their trauma. Pero joke lang naman e, diba?
Dami na bang jokes about rape? Yun naman pala e! E di wala ngang masama don? In fact, padamihin pa natin lalo? Again are you suggesting that if we didn’t react before, then we should just shut up, live with it and let it be?
I had hoped that being citizens in the 21st century, with access to information from around the world and having learned from the experience of our fathers throughout history, we would be a more enlightened generation– one that already knows the real value of each and every human life, or the terrible consequences of continued environmental abuse. I thought we wanted to keep on changing FOR THE BETTER.
Apparently I’m wrong.

It’s not an international news report na sinabing “don’t go to the philippines, that place is sucks”. pwede ka ngang magsulat at sabihin mong “I’ve been in Los Angeles is a Place of Plasticity, looks beautiful and elegant, but what you don’t know is every person you’ll meet is a damn good on sucking your long thick humanity” kahit na ang totoo, di ka pa nakakapunta dun. tpos sa net, pag my sumikat ng Pinoy, “He is Pnoy! i’m proud of being Pinoy because of him!” kapag naman nagrelease ng album. Parang si charice, wonder how many album she sold in Philippines. haist.
Sa mga supporter ni Jessica Soho at sa iba pang pumupuna sa scene, they know the theme of the show. Everything can get out of Vice ganda’s mounth. He even sometimes used his father and other realtive, hal. ung pagsusuot sya ng magagarang damit na pambabae pero mukhang old fashion, sinasabi nyang namana pa nya yun sa tatay nya, na nakita nya ung tatay nya nagsusukat nun. Pero lahat yun sa stage lang, pag nakita nyo si vice in person at sinabi nyong “yung tatay mo, nakita ko naka-t-back” masasaktan na si Vice since it’s not for the stage/entertainment at all. kung tingin ng iba na masyadong offensive yun dahil icon si Jessica sa larangan ng pamamahayag, eh Michael Jackson, Barack Obama, ginagawan din sila ng katatawanan, don’t tell me Jessica is superb compare to metioned two US personality? at isa pa, all person who want to become TV personality must understanding that they are public figure and their name can be used on such concert theme of Vice ganda since they are known by most of audience.
To Jessica Fan: Wag kayang masyadong sensitive, it was a show, it happened on a show. It’s not vice attack Jessica sudeenly in LRT station.
To Pinoy: aminin natin, marami sa ating ganun.

I really love how you wrote this reaction. I think watching the whole scene and the whole scenario can clear everything. Bubble Gang even do such acts pertaining to many criminal offense that people do. Why GMA and the whole News Team of this station is overly reacting (as always) Watching the whole content will explain how much responsible vice was when it comes throwing that kind of joke.. sabi niya nga kasi what if, paano kung… lang nmn, wlaa nmn sinabing narape si ganito si ganoon… I wish GMA 7 should refrained their casters upon throwing up what was already been thrown up by vice. Chewing them again is another thing.

So anong gagawin? Two Cents.

Indeed you have a point. It is somewhat hypocrisy by turning eyes on one-side only. But my two cents on your opinion, you have cited that Boy Abunda, Kris Aquino and the likes were not offended by harsher jokes; I think you missed out the fact that these are close to Vice either personally or professionally. Jessica Soho apparently is not. Let me put it this way, if you have a gay friend, you can address him “Hoy Bakla!” without offense for the reason you have the license to humor of a friend or acquaintance. Try to go out of the streets and find a random gay and call him “Hoy Bakla”, can you imagine the reaction? Maybe GMA’s reaction is somewhat blown out of proportion but regardless, they would not have reacted if there was no offense done. I’m not viewing it as Jessica Soho being a well-respected journalist but as any random person offended by an unwelcome joke. I find Vice funny as I myself watch GGV and Show Time but plain and simple the rape joke was done in bad taste. Indeed Bubble Gang also have jokes on rape but look at the context of the gag, it was a fictitious character and not a named personality. Indeed there were women acting on the Bubble Gang episodes with rape as topic but it was not a joke of Sheena Halili being raped but the character she was portraying in the gag. To Vice, I admire your witty jokes. My advice to you is just be cautious on which personalities you would want to play jokes about. I strongly believe Vice is intelligent enough to have comedy materials to focus around the circle of people who would not mind to be a subject of his stand-up comedy acts. And to the writer, kudos to the writeup. This is Freedom of Speech at work for all of us

I am shocked that many ‘ordinary people’ have made comments excusing Vice Ganda’s use of gang rape as comedy material. They say that it’s no big deal, that it was just a joke, that Jessica Soho who was the butt of the gang rape joke is a party-pooper for not riding along. They say comments criticizing Vice Ganda should stop because people watching his gag enjoyed the gang rape joke anyway. This is the level of consciousness of our people? What gives them the idea that violence against women — violence, period — can be taken as a joke?

..ikr.. it is sad to see the number of ordinary minds. They cannot fathom what the real deal is. They only understand that it made them laugh. And those who did not find it funny are, therefore, named hypocrites.
This is clearly a decline of the society in terms of morality.

there are a couple of things i hate the most about this issue, for one, its obvious that the people of GMA didnt watch the whole skit, because i tell you if they did they would be laughing their asses off when VICE was doing the jokes about Gus Abelgas, Kris Aquino, Kim Atienza and Boy Abunda. it was so clear during the start of the segment that it was about being bold stars..not being raped in person. i saw the whole concert, it was never about it rape. and another thing, i dont like it that they are using victims of rape as an excuse for them being “offended”..i would appreciate her more or respected her more if she said, i was offended because he called her FAT. i know how it is. im also overweight and you just cant help it when you take offense with jokes like that… BUT i dont make excuses. IMHO!!!

here is the catch, bat merong mga bata sa concert ni vice? if the theme of it is vulgar? dapat di na sinama.

At the first place dapat alam ng mga parents nila yun.

AYUS! PALAKPAKAN! …..and just like any other issues, kapag MAINIT siguradong maraming SASAKAY. Sa mga di napapansin….this is your time to SHINE! hahahah.
Para kay pareng VICE……”this too shall pass!”

totoong napakadaming rape jokes before na hindi naman napapansin at hindi nagkaka issue… madami ding panlalait ang hindi naman nagiging malaking issue.. the only difference is he did the joke in front of many people.. aminin nateng lahat (isama na naten lahat ng mga binanggit mong examples ng bubble gang, ni sweet, etc.) na nakakasakit lahat ng yon.. the only difference is now its Jessica Soho.. a well-respected icon… and yes, marami ding respected icons na ginawang material ni vice for fun.. pero hindi naman napansin… wala eh, iba pa rin ang isang Jessica Soho.. ganun talaga… and yes, a lot of those who are reacting didnt watch the concert.. kahit ako.. kung ganun rin lang, na a lot of people are laughing at a person, eh dibale na lang.. and of course, i wont let young children listen to those kind of jokes..
the question is, what kind of values are we imparting to young minds? to youths? Vice is very influential icon.. madaming kabataan ang gumagaya sa mga jokes niya… sabi kse eh JOKE LANG NAMAN… only intended to make people laugh… pero hindi rin eh.. if a mga anak, kamag-anak, mahal sa buhay naten gagawin yan (hindi lang yyung joke n Vice sa araneta, kundi lahat ng nabanggit sa post na ito) matutuwa ba tayo?
why make fun of people kung hindi naman kayo close? saken, if my friends will bully me about on how do i look, okay lang.. but if they do it in front of many people then those people will laugh at me, hindi masarap sa pakiramdam…

Kapwa sikat at matalino. Ano to vice ganda vs GMA news anchors and reporters? Si vice lng b ang katapat nyo?
#GetALife
#triplestandards???
ang focus nyo sa trabaho by taking out the emotional ire out of u.
Sa Dami ng fans ni vice ganda at solid kapuso fans it is the fight between All GMA fans vs. Vice Ganda fans alone. #whoisfunnier, still vice ganda it is still his publicity that keeps his stardom shines brighter.
She took it lightly.
I love GMA NEWS and Vice Ganda.
#DapatTawa

First things first ang issue po dito ay tungkol kay Vice at Jessica. I’m pretty sure wala. Take note 3rd year high school lang po ako at sa tingin ko mas mature pa ako mag isip sa inyo. 🙂

Babae kasi si Jessica Soho siyempre nakakoffend yun. What if sa mother niya sinabi yun? matutuwa siya?

The point there is that si Jessica Soho ang sinabihan niya at hindi ang mother niya 🙂 Wag sanang ilabas sa topic ang mga comment.

GMA NETWORK is just being defensive about the issue because Ms. Jessica Soho was involved. They became biased. On the other hand, it may be a joke but in the end.. There will be this someone who will stand up and say”no, it isn’t funny..” Di ba? 🙂 But this article written is entertaining though. 🙂

Well said. The thin line is this: “Sino ang nasaktan?” The insensitivity they were pointing out was limited as to whom was put under an offensive joke. If it’s an ordinary person put in that, as they say, offensive spotlight, would they even care? Or actually, would they even notice? To say the joke is offensive to Ms. Jessica, ok, that is so true. But to argue and to create this kind of noise because they think rape victims were offended in a joke that’s not even about rape but “bold movies what if’s”, well I think they should’ve weighed their opinions first. Because if this is about defending the rape victims they thought were humiliated by the joke and “rape” being a sensitive and serious matter that shouldn’t be taken lightly or moreover used in a joke, then they should’ve protested a long time ago, napakaraming palabas at pelikula at pati live acts, comedy o hindi, na nag-depict at gumamit ng rape, as a joke or not. Oh ba’t yan walang prumotesta? And how I wish they’ve really watched the WHOLE clip first before they reacted. Ms. Jessica Soho is an award-winning journalist and absolutely deserves high respect. And so is everyone. “You don’t just humiliate pillars like that” ok, but for ordinary people, you can? Kung issue talaga sa inyo ang rape sensitivity, kung concern talaga kayo sa rape victims, go and protest to the many acts where rape was misused, go and issue a protest against the program that aired a rape joke under your home network, which by the way, is teally about rape compared to a joke that only mentioned the word. That will make your “concerns” sincere.

the joke is okay,.but i think its not okay to mention a name as an example,. if your a good comedian,.you will not use the name of other people just to make fun of it. in the program bubble gang,.they make fun without hurting anyone.

i actually got confused a bit there it seemed a little bit bipolar to some extent and i agreed with the first part but the second part is another thing to sum up this comment and not waste your time with all of the things i could say i’ll just say that
there are other ways of making people laugh as a comedian without actually humiliating other people and touching very sensitive topics and that yes it probably was meant as a joke up to some extent but aren’t there other ways entertain people and make them laugh? and people can never truly let go of the things that have been said and apologies are good but they’re never truly enough..OH! and lastly with people sharing the videos and how it is now easy to attain a copy via the internet shouldn’t the people who are in the line of this kind of entertainment be careful of what they say because they will never know who watches (I’m talking about the kids who should not be exposed to such vulgar things.)
oh! last! pahabol lang! its kinda messed up how you thought the people only reacted because of the fact it was jessica soho and if you continue to think like that ugh you make me doubt your level of intellect as this reaction is very common with normal people its just with jessica soho who is famous a lot more people know her and a lot more people are here to react and when it comes to normal people it happens too! people react too! its just it happens in a much smaller scale. learn how to look at things in different perspectives
(its not that im a hater i just think it will help you to provide people with a more well written and diverse essay or blog or whatever you call this)

Ayos

At least ang bubble gang.. nagpapalabas ng notice…na rated PG ang susunod na palabas…I think dun lang nagkamali si vice..he should advice the public na some scenes or jokes are not suitable for young audiences. Pero I think wala ng dapat pag usapan kasi tapos na naman eh.. once na inamin ng isang tao ang kanyang pagkakamali thats all…tinanggap naman ni JS..This should be the end of the conversation I hope wala ng kasunod to..!

You haven’t seen the whole concert. VG repeated several times during the first part of the concert an advisory na lahat ay para sa katatawanan lamang walang personalan.. Anyhow, you are right, VG’s apology should end the conversation.

Well, ive red about vice’s intelligence to educate people. U nuts? Vice ganda is a comedian. He used his intelligence for his career. Gnun naman tlga ang tao dba? Use ur mind to live. y not tell the teachers abou ur comment? Think twice before u post ur conment. Teachers , news anchors and as well as the parents shud be responsible of educating the people. Not a comedian hu can u entertain u very good. Anchors as a news persona used their power to react on a simple joke? I pity them.
